As I was location scouting around Sct. Bendts church in Ringsted in the hours before the wedding, the skies broke open and rain started pouring down! I pulled up the hood on my raincoat and ran into the church, crossing my fingers that the rain would soon stop. As I stood in the church I marvelled at the gorgeous architecture. What a gorgeous and historical church to get married in! The rain soon stopped, but would continue to make an appearance on and off throughout the entire day. In Denmark there is a saying that rain on a wedding day brings luck. If that is true, Marie-Louise and Nicolaj are set for life on luck!
Marie-Louise and Nicolaj have been planning their wedding for two years! They had every little detail planned, and every minute of the day had been carefully crafted! Then, the worldwide corona virus epidemic happened. They had to completely restructure their day, change their plans that they had so carefully crafted. When Marie-Louise’s hair and makeup artist was no longer able to do her hair and makeup for her wedding, Marie-Louise did it herself. When their location closed down, they found another. They handled every setback with so much patience and grace! Even though their day didn’t turn out exactly how they had planned it, it was a beautiful and intimate celebration with their closest loved ones there in attendance!
Marie-Louise and Nicolaj live down the street from Ringsted Church. They love going for walks together in the surrounding gardens, and it was also in these gardens that Nicolaj proposed. (Don’t forget to have a look at their winter engagement pictures taken in the same spot! You can see those here: Marie-Louise and Nicolaj engagement pictures). After the church ceremony, congratulations and group pictures, we walked around the church garden together to capture some romantic portraits. The weather kept changing from sunny to cloudy. Luckily, it wasn’t until we were done with taking portraits that the rain started again! We were able to capture all of their images without rain, which was incredible! I love the images we were able to capture, and the “just married” portraits are always some of my absolute favorites to capture!
After portraits we headed to Gyrstinge Skovkro (restaurant) where Marie-Louise and Nicolaj together cut the cake. Their celebration continued here with their families with a beautiful dinner. As I started packing up and driving home, I couldn’t help but smile. Although their wedding in many ways turned out so differently from what they had planned, it was gorgeous and intimate, and full of love.
